Should i register my domain name with my hosting company?

Nearly all hosting companies offer domain registration as a service. Some sell domains as a reseller for larger companies like enom and Wild West Domains. If your host sells domains in this manner then there is no harm in registering your domains via their domain service.

However, there are many companies who register domains on your behalf. We strongly reccomend not registering your domain with any company that registers the domain for you. In general we believe it to be much better to register your domain via a large domain register like enom, GoDaddy or an approved enom reseller like Dotster.com, NameCheap, or Domain Maniac .

Most hosting companies who offer a 'free domain' when you register will not give you your domain back if you leave the hosting company after a few months. Additionally, if you ever come into a dispute with a hosting company or they go bust then there is a good chance that you will lose your domain name and hence your company presence.

Keep your domain and hosting separate!
